HOW I GOT ON LET'S MAKE A DEAL!!
Ahhh I can FINALLY share this super fun experience!
In September the hubs took me to a taping of the game show Let's Make A Deal. We wanted to go to a taping of Dancing With The Stars, and there was an offer to get priority seating simply by going to a LMAD taping. No problem! And what fun to get dressed up all silly and have some fun for an afternoon!
Once we had the tickets to LMAD, I began to think about the possibilities of being selected to play a trading game. So I googled and found a blog post about another person and how they got on the show. I decided to follow their advice and see if it worked...
You simply had to stand out. When you arrive you are first directed into a little room where you introduce yourself. My husband and I were dressed as "lost tacky tourists" and as we entered the room we were looking confused at our maps and asking for directions to Universal Studios. The girl loved it and advised me to "keep being cute". You then go into a trailer and get your photo taken. Don't just smile! Pose it up! I put my arms in the air and made a huge silly smiling face.
The waiting begins. All 200 of you are in a room with a TV playing episodes of the show. Most people were just simply sitting around talking amongst themselves. But my google research told me that this was the "audition", that there were people placed in the room just watching. So my husband decided to start a limbo contest. Cause what can make you stand out more then standing in front of a room yelling "How low can you go" as willing participants played the game?! (for the record, almost all the participants of the game were selected as contestants)
We are then talked to by the producers who let you know all the rules and then you are led into the studio and told where to sit. We were placed right by the front and could not believe it! We were reminded repeatedly that it doesn't matter where they put you to sit, Wayne selects from all around the audience. Although our seats rocked, it didn't mean we were going to be picked!
But the decisions are not yet made. Music is playing and you need to DANCE and show off your energy! They are still watching you to make sure you are still high energy! DO NOT SLOW DOWN!
The show begins, and on the first game a lady 2 seats down from me is selected. I pretty much assumed that meant no one else from our row would be picked...but we still kept the energy up and danced alot during the breaks. The games went on and over and over again Wayne did not even look in my direction as he walked past me over and over (I was on the isle seat pretty much right behind him) So I was losing hope. Silly of me to think I would really be picked....
The last game before the big deal. Wayne says he needs 2 people, turns around looks right at me points and says "YOU!"
I'm in shock.
I stand up and go to the stage. I'm in shock. The lights are suddenly bright and I only now notice the 5 cameras pointing at us. How did I not notice all the cameras from my seat? Wayne grabs another lady and we start our game.
He has a silver envelope in his hand. He says the envelope contains $5000. Now they could be real dollars or Zonk dollars (basically a hoax prize and you go away with nothing) I am asked to pick between the envelope or the big box that has magically appeared on the stage.
I go for the box.
I win a Scooter! Sweet! And just like that I'm back in my seat.
The other lady takes the envelope, it's a Zonk.
Now it's time for the Big Deal of the Day. The contestant with the highest dollar value prize is invited to trade their prize in for a chance at a BIGGER prize! You pick from 3 doors. No Zonks.
Guess how had the highest value prize?
Yup. ME!
Wayne returns and asks me if I would like to trade my scooter for a chance to win a mystery prize worth over 22k. No brainer. SURE!
So I return to the stage and I go for Door 3 cause I have 3 kids. I know, so predictable.
Door 1 opens. Hot tub. I am relieved cause I don't have a yard. No where to put that!
He then opens Door 2, and I see a brand new Dodge Journey. Well I didn't pick the right door. But I know Door 3 will be a good prize!
Open Door 3 to find a new refrigerator, wine cooler, and $500 in wine accessories. Sounds good to me!
It was such a fun time, and a great day with my husband. Such a unique
date day where we got to be fun and very very silly, picking up some new appliances along the way. It's a day we will never forget!
I am truly blessed.
