Making Your Summer Count!

It's summertime! The kids are off school (unless you are a year round homeschool family!) The sun is shining, and your kids are staring at your bored out of their minds!

Well, that's how it's been at my house. My kids have been looking at me like this:

Look familiar??

And it's not like we have just been sitting around the house! We have been going to the beach, the library and the park on a pretty regular basis. But apparently when we have that down time at home, I need to get some activities in place.

And I do NOT mean this kind of activity!
So I decided to visit my dear friend Pinterest to get some ideas of activities to keep the kids engaged while we are at home. Heaven forbid we spend and afternoon or two around the house!

Here are a few that caught my eye!

Have the kids make a racetrack with some tape for their pom poms to race on.  You can also use cars, trains, etc. Love this idea from frugalfun4boys.com

And how about a scavenger hunt? A great idea from artfulparent.com

And of course, there are numerous sites that have lists of 10, 15, 20 boredom busters. Here is one from thegirlcreative.com

Gotta love Pinterest.

Another thing you can do to keep the school skills up and to get the kids outside is to do nature walks with journals. It's a wonderful way to get the kids do more then just go for a walk. They pay more attention to their surroundings and make great little books that record not only what they discovered, but it also captures the moment and makes a memory.

Community events give us a variety of activities to do! Check your local papers, and if you have a family magazine for our area, there is always a list of what is happening daily. I have found so much fun stuff to do with this resource! Last week we went to a tortoise exhibit and my kids got the walk and ride the tortoise! It was amazing and FREE!

I know it can be challenging to keep the kids happy and busy during these summer months. I hope this little post can help direct you to some new ideas to keep the little ones happy! My goal for our summer (and really our everyday) is to make it fun, and to make it count. Enjoy the summer, it will be gone before you know it! Linking Up At: a-wise-woman-builds-her-home
